What’s Fresh- Week of February 19th, 2018

Spring will be upon us before we know it, even with our unexpected winter weather yesterday. Hopefully you all got to enjoy the snow we got on this long holiday weekend. We have so much going on at the Coop, there’s much to look forward to! Our Cheesemaking class this Sunday is full (with more classes to come in the near future), and we have a number of new products in the store. We have cloth diapers on the way, we have dairy free cream cheese and sour cream from Follow Your Heart, and plant based burger patties from Beyond Meat. Also new in the store, we have no salt organic soups from Health Valley and seeds from Uprising. We are always looking for new items to put on our shelves, and there’s still more to come! We are trying to meet the varying needs of our community, whether you are low sodium, dairy free, vegan, gluten free, or somewhere in between. If we don’t carry something you need or want, just ask, we can most likely special order it!

As for fresh produce this week, we have a wide array of fruits and veggies, organic as always! Asparagus, Japanese salad turnips, cauliflower, parsley, salad greens, romaine lettuce, 3 types of locally grown mushrooms: king trumpet, shitake & hedgehog, cucumbers, radishes, beets, artichokes, leeks, purple & green cabbage, parsnips, celery, both orange and rainbow carrots, broccoli, brussel sprouts, Russian kale, microgreen sprouts: mild, spicy, pea or sunflower, tomatoes, yukon potatoes, delicata squash, avocados, bananas, cantaloupe, watermelon, Ataulfo mangoes, tangelos, pomelos, grapefruit, limes, cameo apples, and red d’anjou pears.

We are very excited to announce that we will be participating in Future Fest, an Earth day weekend event right here in Anacortes that will take place on April 21st and 22nd. This event is new to Anacortes, and is a community brainstorming session centered around how we want our future to look. It will feature workshops about various subjects such as housing and business, and there will be an art show and songwriting contest. The Coop will be there with our wonderful food, including sandwiches from Rachel’s Cool Beans! This FREE event is going to be great, we hope you can attend!
